Dr. Kang-Yup Na, associate professor of religion at Westminster College, lectured at the 2016 International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Seoul, South Korea.

His invited lecture, “Of Great Walls, DMZs, and Other Lines in the Sand: The Truth (of the Gospel) about Borders and Barriers—and Crossing Them in Galatians,” was part of this year’s conference theme, "Crossing Borders: Biblical Studies from the Four Corners of the World."

Among the 560 attendees was Dr. Gregory E. Sterling, dean of Yale Divinity School and the Rev. Henry L. Slack, dean and Lillian Claus Professor of New Testament at Yale University, who responded to Na’s lecture.

Additionally, Na presented “Biblical Theology—in Asia or Anywhere: The Tortuous and Torturous Tale of Scriptura and Tradition” as well as “Our Historical Jesuses: Hermeneutical Lessons from Luke, Montaigne, Voltaire, and Schweitzer,” his collaborative work with research assistant Bryan Gallo, senior computer science major.

Gallo, Carnegie, Pa., is a son of Robert and Barbara Gallo and a graduate of Chartiers Valley High School.

Yonsei University, one of the top three universities in Korea, among the top 100 universities in the world, and exchange program partner with Westminster College, hosted the event.

The funding for the research and conference presentation was provided by the Heinz Fund.
