Every Tuesday morning during the spring semester, Westminster College students spent time outside of the traditional classroom visiting and learning alongside inmates.

Through the sociology and criminal justice studies programs, students enrolled in the Inside-Out course at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg, Ohio.

The Westminster students, or, the “outsiders,” joined the incarcerated students, or, the “insiders,” to take the course “Sociology of Violence and Nonviolence.”

Inside-Out is an international program in which Dr. Kristenne Robison, associate professor of sociology and criminal justice studies, received facilitator training. Robison has an inside co-facilitator, Darrell Jones.

Dr. Sherri Pataki, associate professor of psychology, and Dr. Kristin Park, professor of sociology, were guest lectures for the course. Pataki spoke about The Holocaust and Park spoke about Amish forgiveness.
