Each year, Westminster College hosts various camps and workshops stemming from the idea of serving others. One such program is the Marion G. Resch Foundation’s Bright Futures program, now celebrating its 11th year. The program revolves around a partnership between Westminster, the Foundation, and the community of Campbell, Ohio.

Since June of 2005, Westminster College has opened its doors for the annual 10-day residential summer camp. The program blends the building of academic skills—particularly in the core areas of mathematics and writing—with performing and fine arts experiences. Throughout the week, subjects explored include leadership development, health and wellness, personal responsibility and wise choices, as well as reaching educational aspirations (including college visits).

During the camp, students work with their peers, Campbell teachers, and Westminster faculty, staff and students on academics as well as the creation of a final theatrical performance for family and friends.

To date, every student (total of 87) participating in the Marion G. Resch Bright Futures program has completed high school and 86 percent of Bright Futures graduates entered two/four year colleges/universities.

Last summer, 36 high school students looked closely at Youngstown State University, specifically Campbell, through time. They met with the Mayor and with Judge, Hon. Patrick Cunning in his courtroom to learn about crime, punishment, appropriate behavior, civic disobedience, neighborhood decline, and good citizenry.
