Westminster College to Host French Film Festival, Jan., Feb. and March

Westminster College will host the 4th annual Tournées French Film Festival, featuring six consecutive French language films at 7 p.m. each Tuesday beginning Jan. 26 in Mueller Theater, McKelvey Campus Center. The events are free and open to the public.

“Les Combattants,” or “Love at First Fight,” will show on Jan. 26. The film tells the story of Arnaud’s summer which is set to be peaceful until he runs into Madeleine and his summer quickly turns awry.

“3 Coeurs,” or “3 Hearts,” will debut on Feb. 2. In the film, a tax inspector, his new bride and her sister become entwined in a love triangle.

“Deux jours, une nuit,” or “Two Days, One Night,” will premiere on Feb. 9. The film features Sandra, a young Belgian mother who discovers that her co-workers have opted for a significant pay bonus in exchange for her dismissal. She has only one weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses and save her job.

“Bird People,” which will be shown on Feb. 16, features a Silicon Valley engineer who abruptly quits his job, ends his relationship with his wife, and hides away in an airport hotel. Soon, fate draws him to a young, French maid.

Debuting Feb. 23, “Le Havre” features an African boy who arrives by cargo ship in the port city of Le Havre. After his arrival, an aging shoe shiner takes pity on the child and welcomes him into his home.

On March 1, the classic film “Le jour se lève,” or “Daybreak,” will debut. In the film, after committing a murder, a man locks himself in his apartment and recollects the events that led him to the killing.

Organized by the Division of Communications, Arts, Languages and Literature, and as part of the Jake Erhardt International Film Series, the Tournées Festival is provided by a grant from the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE). Support for the festival is provided by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée, the Franco-American Cultural Fund, the Florence Gould Foundation, Campus France USA, and Highbrow Entertainment.
