Westminster College Announces Planetarium Show Times for Feb., March and April

The Westminster College Planetarium will host 11 shows in Feb., March, and April. The shows are free of charge and open to the public, although registration is requested at www.westminster.edu/planetarium or by phone at (724) 946-STAR (7827).

“We Are Aliens!” will run Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., March 19 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and April 16 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Recommended for ages six and older, the show explores Mars, Europa and distant exoplanets to help answer the ultimate question, “Are we alone?” Narrated by Rupert Grint of Harry Potter, the show finely balances science, education and family entertainment. Rooftop stargazing will follow the 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. shows, weather permitting.

“Back to the Moon for Good” will run Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. and April 16 at 4 p.m. Recommended for ages eight and older, the show highlights the history of lunar exploration and provides an insider’s look at the teams vying for the $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE, the largest incentivized prize in history. It is narrated by award-winning actor Tim Allen. Rooftop stargazing will follow the Feb. 6 show, weather permitting.

“One World One Sky: Big Birds Adventure” will run March 19 at 3:30 p.m. Recommended for ages three through six, the show explores the night sky with the Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu.

“Pluto: Exploring New Horizons” will run March 19 at 6:30 p.m. and April 16 at 7 p.m. Recommended for ages eight and older, the show focuses on the cold, dark, and distant dwarf planet Pluto, which was explored for the first time this past July by the New Horizons spacecraft.
