In a ranking provided by the Best College Review, Westminster College ranked 11th in the “50 Best Colleges for Greek Life” in the nation.

“In a world where Greek Life is often noticed for its failings, I am proud of the women and men involved in Greek Life at Westminster College,” said Gina Vance, associate dean of student affairs. “They are committed to meaningful philanthropic work and have a strong record of academic success. What sets this community apart, however, is the care and concern they exhibit for one another while wearing their own letters. The support they offer another member of the Westminster community in need is immediate, collective, and unparalleled.”

At Westminster College, 49 percent of the student population is involved in Greek life, which consists of four national fraternities and five national sororities. Together, Westminster College’s Greek life raises more than $19,000 each year.

During Greek Week 2015, Westminster College’s sororities and fraternities collected nearly 4,000 personal hygiene, clothing, backpacks, food and other items in support of the Lawrence County Veterans Stand Down Committee. In 2014, the charters raised $11,656 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, among other fundraisers that happen every year within the individual national sororities and fraternities.

Each year, the “50 Best Colleges for Greek Life” ranking is based on the following five criteria: percentage of students enrolled in Greek life; number of Greek organizations on campus; Greek organizations must be chapters of national organizations, such as, but not limited to, the Panhellenic Conference, Interfraternity Council, or Multi-Cultural Greek Council; number of criminal offenses occurring on campus during 2011 – 2013; and average Greek Rank rating.
