The Westminster College Celebrity Series will open their 48th season at 7:30 p.m., September 12 in Orr Auditorium, with four-time Grammy Award-nominated American vocal group Wilson Phillips. The event is sponsored by First National Bank.

Known for their hit song “Hold On,” Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips gained recent popularity from their appearance in the film Bridesmaids

Wilson Phillips first appeared in 1990 flaunting a harmony-rich sound that helped send three singles from their first album -- "Hold On," "Release Me," and "You're in Love" -- to the top of the Billboard charts. The vocal trio is comprised of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips.  The two Wilson sisters had grown up in California with their father, Beach Boy bandleader Brian Wilson, and often made appearances on his albums throughout their childhood. Chynna's parents, meanwhile, were John and Michelle Phillips (of the folk-rock band the Mamas & the Papas). Their 1990 debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide and placed in three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, making the trio the “best-selling female group of all time.”

To celebrate their 20th anniversary as a recording act, Wilson Phillips recorded Dedicated, an album devoted entirely to songs made famous by the Beach Boys and the Mamas & the Papas.

The will perform 60s and 70s hits from their Dedicated album, including “California Deamin,” “Wouldn’t it be Nice,” and “In my Room,” as well as their own greatest hits.

Tickets for Wilson Phillips range from $35 to $55 and can be purchased by contacting Georgene Gib, box office manager, at 724-946-7354 or by visiting www.westminster.edu/celebrity.
