Dr. Kang Yup Na, associate professor of religion at Westminster College, will travel to the University of Tennessee for the Big Tent Conference, bringing a fresh perspective to an audience of over 500 people.

At next week’s conference, Na will lead two 45-minute, large-group Bible studies, titled “The Lost and Found of Missional Living,” which will focus on Luke 15. The chapter encompasses three well-known biblical stories: the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Parable of the Lost Coin, and the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

In a recent Presbyterian Church (USA) release, Na shares what he hopes participants will learn throughout the study: “This Bible study is all about leaving with a renewed question or questions about this text and how it might reform our minds about how to think about God and theology and church,” said Na. “How do we think about moral agents who have these strange relationships with property, about belonging in the same family?”

As part of the PC(USA), according to their website, the Big Tent conference is “a gathering that aims to inspire and equip Presbyterians to live missionally and experience a deep sense of community.” The conference will host worship services, Bible studies, displays of the PC(USA) agencies, and a wide variety of workshops and other activities.

“I look forward to diving deep into the chapter, using narratives, historic contexts, and carefully unpacking the Greek language,” continued Na. “I will ask questions that will help participants think differently about these familiar passages and motivate them to act in new ways in their Christian walk.”
