Westminster College’s Celebrity Series Announces Their 48th Season Lineup

The Westminster College Celebrity Series has opened their box office for the 48th time, celebrating the upcoming 2015 – 2016 season.  

“Our phones are ringing and we have people stopping by the office just wondering what’s on tap for this year – needless to say, we have a great lineup,” said Connie McGinnis, director of the Celebrity Series. “I’m so proud to invite our community to journey with us throughout another exciting Celebrity Series season. In a recent interview, Denny Tedesco shared that ‘every song is a bookmark in our life.’ His words capture the musical journey that we’ve taken throughout the decades and that of which we will enjoy together in 2015 and 2016.”

Wilson Phillips, sponsored by First National Bank, will kick off the season on September 12. The American vocal group consists of Wendy and Carnie Wilson and Chynna Philips daughters, respectively, of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.  Most recently known for one of their greatest hits “Hold On” from the movie “Bridesmaids,” they will perform hits including “California Dreamin’,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” and “In my Room.”

The Lennon Sisters, also known as “America’s Sweethearts of Song,” are scheduled for October 10. Appearing regularly on The Lawrence Welk Show for 13 years, they will provide an evening of legendary harmonies accompanied by video highlights of their career and stories that will bring laughs and warm memories.

Little River Band, sponsored by the Springfield Restaurant Group, is planned for November 16. Topping the music charts around the world with more than 30 million albums sold, Little River Band is most known for their rock power ballads including “Reminiscing,” “Happy Anniversary,” “Lady,” “Cool Change,” “Lonesome Loser” and more.

A Christmas concert by David Phelps, sponsored by Giant Eagle, is on tap for December 14. Backed by a full band, Phelps is an American Christian vocalist, songwriter, and vocal arranger, best known for singing tenor in the Gaither Vocal Band.

You’ve Got a Friend: The Concert Presentation, sponsored by Jameson Health System and Huntington Bank, is scheduled for April 23, 2016. It will be a moving, genuine and nostalgic connection with the music of Carole King and James Taylor with hit songwriter and Poland, Ohio native Kirsti Manna and national recording artist Jonathan Birchfield. Accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra, the duo will take the audience back with favorites, including “How Sweet It Is,” “Carolina in My Mind,” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”

All regular season shows are at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Two special shows are slated for kids this season, both at 6:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. Celebrity Series for Kids shows are not included in the regular season package.

Room on the Broom, recommended for children three years old and up, will take center stage on March 3, 2016. The show is produced by Tall Stories Theatre Co. from London, England, and is adapted from the popular children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The event is sponsored by Dr. Richard Ribarevski, orthodontist, and Park Inn by Radisson.

Henry and Mudge will perform on May 27, 2016. The show is a Theatreworks USA production based on popular children’s book series by Cynthia Rylant and is recommended for children Pre-Kindergarten through third grade.
