Westminster College senior environmental science major Christina Mauri received the Helen R. Ferguson Scholarship for excellence in environmental science.

The award was presented by the Bartramian Audubon Society at its award ceremony May 11 at Jennings Environmental Education Center. Professors who attended the ceremony with Mauri included Dr. Helen Boylan, professor of chemistry and coordinator of environmental programs, and Evann Garrison, English lecturer who is Mauri’s writing instructor.

The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in environmental science who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of environmental science and education.

“The Environmental Science Committee selected Christina because of her strong academic record in the sciences and because of the outreach she is engaged in,” Boylan said, “Christina has used her writing minor to support the Lawrence and Mercer ALLARM [Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring] team, writing weekly posts to support ALLARM’s water quality monitoring efforts.”

Mauri is a daughter of Douglas Mauri of Meadville and a graduate of Meadville Area High School.
