Westminster English Professor Leads Workshop

Posted on Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Dr. Andrew Ade, assistant professor of English at Westminster College, recently presented a workshop to theater practitioners and educators at the 2006 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival at the State University of New York (SUNY).

"The session, 'Quick Steps to Deep Structure: Script-Analysis Technique for Directors, Dramaturgs, and Actors,' introduced a tool of literary analysis to arrive quickly at the deep structure of a play -- that is, the set of underlying dramatic forces at work that explain the dynamic role of each character in the complete story" Ade said. "I demonstrated the analysis on ten famous specimen plays and then led the participants in a practice analysis on a new short play."

Ade, who has been with Westminster College since 2003, earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and a master's and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.
