Announcing Spring Planetarium Shows

The Westminster College Planetarium will host four shows this spring. The programs are free and open to the public. Due to limited seating, reservations should be made online at www.westminster.edu/planetarium or by calling (724) 946-STAR (7827) Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

"Seven Wonders" will be shown Saturday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 21 at 9:00 p.m.; and Saturday, April 11 at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Suitable for ages eight to adult, Seven Wonders will tour both manmade wonders of the ancient world and natural wonders of the Universe. The show is narrated by British actor Sean Bean (Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings). All shows except the 5:00 p.m. show on April 11 will be followed by outdoor stargazing, weather permitting.

"One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure" will be shown Saturday, February 28 at 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 21 at 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. Suitable for children ages three to six, viewers will explore the night sky with their favorite Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo, and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu.

"Stars" will be shown Saturday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Suitable for ages six to adult, this show explores the lives of stars - how they are born, how they die and how human understanding of them has changed over time. Outdoor stargazing will follow the February and March shows, weather permitting.

"Secret of the Cardboard Rocket" will be shown Saturday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. Suitable for ages five to 10, the show follows a young girl and boy who turn a cardboard box into a rocket for a daring adventure that introduces children to the solar system.  Viewers will learn what a planet is, how the planets differ from each other, and why Earth is a special place.
