Lecturer and Colleagues Presented at International Conference

Posted on Monday, January 19, 2015

Tina Keller, Westminster College education lecturer, and three colleagues presented "(Un)covering Bias and Pushing Boundaries in Children's Literature" at the international conference of the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) in Tucson in November.

According to the abstract, participants critically examined ways that children's literature is latent with power, privilege and ideologies that can divide and create "others" or build solidarity and push boundaries.  Through interactive activities, participants gained fresh insights into selecting books to share with their students.

Keller and her colleagues, all doctoral students at New Mexico State University, represented Pennsylvania, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.

Keller, who has been with Westminster since 2012, earned an undergraduate degree from Messiah College and master's degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
