Posted on Monday, November 24, 2014

Westminster College will continue a long-standing tradition of its Christmas Vespers Service Sunday, December 7, at 3 p.m. at Orr Auditorium. The service is open to the public.

The annual worship service, "Wonder, Wonders, and Wandering," includes familiar Christmas music performed by the Westminster Combined Choirs, Wind Ensemble, Brass Quintet, Westminster and New Wilmington Presbyterian Church Hand Bell Choirs, Flute Choir, and Gospel Choir. Following the lighting of the Advent candles and scripture reading, the message will be given by Reverend James R. Mohr II, College chaplain.

Additional faculty and staff participating are: Dr. Samuel W. Barbara, director of Choral Activities; Ms. Anne P. Bruening, director of Handbell Choirs; Dr. R. Tad Greig, director of Wind Ensemble; Mr. James Henderson, director of Gospel Choir; Ms. Kathryn Davison Miller, organist; Fr. Michael Peck, rector, St. Camillus Church; Mr. David P. Tessmer, director of Flute Choir; and Dr. Timothy D. Winfield, director of Brass Quintet.

A voluntary offering will support the campus ministry and Habitat for Humanity spring break work trips to Georgetown, Del., and Georgetown, S.C. Angel tree gifts, which will be displayed in Orr Auditorium Lobby, were purchased by members of the campus community to support children and youth through Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Walker House, the Pennsylvania Homeless Children's Initiative and the Bair Foundation. The Office of Faith and Spirituality coordinated the effort.

Following the service, the Office of Faith and Spirituality staff will host a reception and time of fellowship in Orr Lobby. The service will be broadcast on Titan Digital Radio 88.9 FM.
