Westminster College Fraternity to Hold Relay for Life Informational Meeting

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Alpha Nu chapter of national fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi will host an informational/interest meeting for Relay for Life at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 in Westminster College's Berlin Lounge, located at the McKelvey Campus Center.  The meeting is open to the public.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event raises money to fund research in the fight against cancer and to support patients and their families with such programs as Road to Recovery, which provides patients with transportation to and from their doctor appointments; Look Good Feel Better, which provides beauty tips to women to improve their appearance and self-image during treatments; and Hope Lodge Facilities, free and comfortable shelter for patients and their caregivers to stay while they travel for treatment.

To raise these funds Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. In addition to the daylong walk, participants can take advantage of the games, music, survivors' lap and survivors' dinner.

Westminster's Relay is the oldest college Relay in Pennsylvania. This year's event starts at 10 a.m. May 3, 2014. Teams can register and individuals can donate by visiting www.relayforlife.org and searching for Westminster College Relay 2014.

Alpha Sigma Phi, founded at Yale University in 1845, established the Westminster chapter in 1939.  The fraternity aims to be the co-curricular organization of choice for discerning undergraduate men through the provision of an enriching brotherhood experience and a full range of character and leadership development opportunities.
