Westminster College Adds Five New Full-Time Faculty

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College recently added five new full-time faculty members.
Dr. Francis J. Barrios, visiting assistant professor of chemistry, earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Purdue University. He has experience as a teaching assistant and lecturer at Purdue, and as a teaching assistant at the University of Puerto Rico. Barrios has contributed to the chemistry field by publishing articles of his research findings twice in Organic Letters, and in Leukemia and Lymphoma and the Journal of Organic Chemistry. Dr. Christine Frechard, visiting lecturer of French, earned a graduate degree in French modern literature from the University of Dijon in France; a master's level degree in linguistics from the University of Laval in Quebec, Canada; and a master's degree in linguistics (A+) French as a second language from the University of Rouen in France. From January 2003 to May 2004 she taught French at Slippery Rock University. Additional teaching experience includes: teaching in France for nine years, as principal of a French school in Lynchburg, Va., and teaching at the French International School in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Dr. Angela M. Lahr, assistant professor of history, has prior teaching experience at Westminster College and has returned to teach during the Fall 2013 semester. She earned an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Evansville in Indiana and a master's and Ph.D. in history from Northern Illinois University. She has teaching experience at Texas A&M, Benedictine University, Northern Illinois University, and Finger Lakes Community College. Lahr published a book titled Millennial Dreams and Apocalyptic Nightmares: The Cold War Origins of Political Evangelicalism. Her research has also been featured in Methodist History. Andrew T. Schwanbeck, visiting assistant professor of media art + design, earned an undergraduate degree in industrial design from the University of Arts in Philadelphia and a MFA in visual communication design from Kent State University. He is the principal for Schwabneck Creative, where he delivers design solutions for clients through various media, including: websites, print communications, branding and environmental graphics. Dr. John N. Westgate, visiting assistant professor of chemistry, earned an undergraduate and Ph.D. in environmental chemistry from the University of Toronto. He has taught an environmental chemistry course, was a guest lecturer for research in environmental science, was a teaching assistant for Advanced Techniques in Geographic Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing, and Introduction to Environmental Science. Westgate has contributed articles to numerous publications including Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Pollution, Atmospheric Environment, and Environmental Science & Technology.
