Westminster College to Celebrate Commencement May 18

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - More than 300 students are expected to earn degrees Saturday, May 18, at Westminster College's 159th commencement ceremonies. A baccalaureate service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Orr Auditorium with commencement at 2:30 p.m. on the Weisel Senior Terrace of Old Main.
The baccalaureate message will be given by the Rev. Dr. John B. "Mike" Loudon, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, Fla., and former pastor of Highland Presbyterian Church of New Castle.
The class of 2013 selected Lauren Gaynord to give the senior address. An English major, Gaynord is a daughter of Sheri Gaynord of Valencia and a graduate of Mars Area High School.
In case of rain, the commencement ceremony will be held in Memorial Field House.

Leonard M. Carroll to Earn Honorary Degree:
The commencement ceremony will include the conferring of an honorary degree, doctor of business administration, honoris causa, to Leonard M. Carroll, chairman of Seneca Capital Management Inc. of Sewickley, and former chairman of the Westminster Board of Trustees.
He will share his thoughts on "Working with Westminster." Carroll served 20 years on Westminster's Board.
Westminster College has benefitted greatly from Carroll's involvement and leadership. During his term as chair of the board (2008-2012) he helped develop the vision and goals of Westminster's current $50 million comprehensive campaign Ever Higher: The Campaign for Westminster College, and has supported that effort significantly.
In addition to the role of chairman of Seneca Capital Management Inc., a venture capital firm he co-founded in 1996 focusing on the growth and development of northwest Pennsylvania businesses, he served as president and chief operating officer of Integra Financial Corporation in Pittsburgh, and served in executive positions with Pennbancorp in Titusville and First Seneca Bank of Oil City.
