Westminster College to Host Ken and Nancy Long Chemistry Lecture Nov. 2

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College Department of Chemistry will host Dr. Charles Taylor for the fifth annual Ken and Nancy Long Chemistry Lecture Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Phillips Lecture Hall of the Hoyt Science Building.  The event is free to the public.

Taylor is the director of the Chemistry and Surface Science Division of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Taylor's presentation, "NETL: Where Energy Challenges Converge and Energy Solutions Emerge," will review how the NETL uniquely meets DOE's mission to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States.

Taylor served as the 2009 Chair of the American Chemical Society's Division of Fuel Chemistry, Secretary of the Division of Fuel Chemistry, and President and Secretary of the Pittsburgh-Cleveland Catalysis Society. He has over 70 publications, six U.S. patents and has made hundreds of presentations. Taylor earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and master's and Ph.D. from Duquesne University.  He has been employed at NETL since 1985.

The lecture series is funded by Dr. Ken Long, Westminster professor of chemistry emeritus, and his wife, Nancy, to invite outstanding chemists to speak to Westminster students.
