NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College Audio Visual Services (AV) held its first annual Chili Cook-off during homecoming festivities Sept. 29 and raised more than $300 to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The cook-off was themed as "Help Us Crank Up the Heat on Cystic Fibrosis." It was $1 to taste all seven of the unique homemade, donated entries, and $3 for a bowl. The entries included a variety of ingredients, including sweet potato and quinoa, jalapenos, and apples. The winner entry was "Maureen's Chicken Chili" by Maureen Swanson.

"We were pleasantly surprised by the turnout this year," said Kelly Matune, public relations and operations manager for AV. "As the tradition continues, we encourage everyone to get involved by entering their own chili recipe or stopping by to taste. Thank you to those that made it out this year."

Matune, a senior public relations major, is a daughter of Frank and Doreen Matune of Hermitage and a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States, and 70,000 worldwide. AV has participated for many years in College-wide efforts and fundraisers for cystic fibrosis, particularly for Claire Hartner, daughter of Westminster Enterprise Network Manager Kelly Hartner. Last year the department helped "Team Claire" collect more than $36,000 in donations to the worthy cause.

AV provides up-to-date tools, resources and training for academic and professional settings at Westminster College. Services include production of poster and photo printing, digital signage, lamination and more.
