Westminster College Assistant Professor's Composition Released on CD

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Dr. Daniel Perttu, Westminster College assistant professor of music theory and composition, composed a piece, "Gloamin," that was recently released on the album LOCK and KEY.

"Gloamin" was performed by Dr. Andrea Loewy, flute, and Dr. Yuling Huang-Davie, piano. Loewy is professor of flute and theory at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Huang-Davie is coordinator of accompanying and music coach of the University of Louisiana's Opera Theatre.

The album was released on the Navona Records label. Recently one of Perttu's orchestral pieces was released as the title feature of the Navona album Light and Shadow. Navona Records is distributed internationally by Naxos, which is the largest independent label in the world.

Parma Recordings, Navona's parent label, said the album "opens the door to discover harmonious, melodic chamber works tied together by a shared understanding of the most treasured aspects of humanity. Through diverse experiences and impressionism, each composer highlights that which makes us human but is all too easy to hide away."

Perttu's music has been performed in Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States. In addition, Perttu's music has been published by BRS Music, Inc., as well as Dorn Publications. He has also received various commissions and awards from throughout the country. One notable recent commission was for a piece that was performed by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and Shenango Valley Chorale.

Perttu, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2008, earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two masters from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University.
