Westminster College Students, Alumni and Professor Attend Conference for American Choral Directors

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Two Westminster College alumni and two students attended the Summer Conference for the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania (ACDA-PA) July 28-31 on the campus of Pennsylvania State University.
Hannah Jaskiewicz, Anthony Pazzelle, Kevin Tomb ‘12 and Victoria Walker ‘12 sang in the Intergenerational Honor Choir conducted by Dr. Janet Galván, from Ithaca College. They also served as student aids for the conference which gave them the benefit of attending sessions, meeting nationally-recognized choral conductors and educators, and making connections with fellow college students and faculty from other colleges and universities in Pennsylvania.
Jaskiewicz, a senior music education major, is a daughter of Valentine and Carolyn Jaskiewicz of Erie and a graduate of Harbor Creek High School. She is the president of Mu Phi Epsilon, the international and professional music fraternity, and president of the Concert Choir.
Pezzelle, also a senior music education major, is a son of Natalie Pezzelle of Monessen and a graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School. He sings in the Concert Choir, accompanies the Women's Chorus, and composed music for last year's theatre production of As You Like It.
Tomb, a May graduate in music education with a concentration in voice, is a son of Gary and Christine Tomb of Moon Township and a graduate of Moon Area High School. While at Westminster, he was a member of nearly a dozen music organizations, including: the Men's Choir, Chamber Singers, Titan Marching Band, and Wind Ensemble. He was also the president of the Westminster chapter of American Choral Directors Association.
Walker, a May graduate in music education, is a daughter of James and Linda Walker of Worthington and a graduate of Kittanning High School. While at Westminster she was a member of Westminster's Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers, Horn Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, Horn Quartet, and Brass Quintet. She also served two years as field commander of the Titan Marching Band and co-president of Concert Choir.
The students were accompanied to the conference by Dr. Robin Lind, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at Westminster. Lind serves as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Male Choirs for the state of Pennsylvania and served as the Registrar for the conference. She also led a reading session of repertoire for male choirs during the conference.
Lind, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho, master's from the University of Oregon, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
Other highlights at the conference included interest sessions ranging in topics from "The Conductor/Accompanist: For Novice Pianists" to "Teaching Music to Students with Special Needs" and "Johannes Herbst: Pennsylvania's Bridge to the Berlin Song School."
Shaun Cloonan, a 2000 Westminster graduate who teaches at North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, served as the Southwest Chair at the conference.
