Philosophy Professor to Speak on Nietzsche's "Eternal Recurrence" at Faires Faculty Forum

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2012

Dr. David Goldberg, Westminster College associate professor of philosophy, will present "Nietzsche's Eternal Recurrence: What Is It That Returns?" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Nietzsche referred to the philosophical concept of Eternal Recurrence as his "most abysmal thought" and left very few textual references from which scholars could construct an understanding.  Based on his sabbatical research, Goldberg will offer an alternative interpretation that coincides better with Nietzsche's philosophic body of writings.

Goldberg, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2002, earned undergraduate and master's degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and Ph.D. from Duquesne University.

Contact Goldberg at (724) 946-7153 or email for additional information.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.  Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
