Psychology Department Article Published in Undergraduate Research Journal

Posted on Friday, August 26, 2011

An article authored by Westminster College's Department of Psychology faculty was published in the September edition of the Council on Undergraduate Research's online quarterly.

Contributing to "Undergraduate Research in a Psychology/Neuroscience Curriculum" were: Dr. Mandy Medvin, professor and chair of the department; Dr. Sandra Webster, professor; Dr. Jamie McMinn, associate professor; Dr. Kirk Lunnen, associate professor; Dr. Sherri Pataki, assistant professor; and Dr. Alan Gittis, professor emeritus.

The article outlines the department's incremental program that engages students in undergraduate research activities that promote valuable higher-order thinking skills.  These activities culminate in the completion of a two-semester senior capstone thesis by all majors in the department.

The article concludes, "Post-graduation placements and alumni reports testify that both students who engage in graduate study and/or join the work force immediately have been well prepared for these transitions by their extensive undergraduate research experience."
