College to Present Annual Christmas Vespers Dec. 5

Posted on Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Westminster College will continue a long-standing tradition with the presentation of "Something's Coming" at Christmas Vespers Sunday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

The annual worship service includes carols from around the world performed by a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles; reflections on the carols; Scripture readings; and "Waiting on Lightning," the message from Westminster College Chaplain the Rev. James R. Mohr II and junior theatre major Kayla Castille.

Additional faculty and staff participating are: Anne Bruening, director of handbell choirs; Father Thomas Lewandowski, rector of St. Camillus Church in New Castle; Mr. Kris Harper, director of Women's Chorus; James "Manny" Henderson, director of Gospel Choir; Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities; and Kathryn Davison Miller, Westminster College organist.

Members of the spring break work teams, Westminster chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and Chapel Staff will serve as ushers. Richard Maggazine will provide interpretation for the deaf.

Angel Tree gifts that will be displayed in Orr Lobby were purchased by members of the campus community for children in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Lawrence County, Walker House, and Pennsylvania Homeless Children's Initiative. Members of the Chapel Staff Service Team coordinated the effort.

Offerings collected will be used to support the spring break work trips to Nashville, Tenn. (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Flood Recovery Program); Edisto Island, S.C. (Edisto Island Mission); and Hampton, Ga. (Calvin Center Global Village).

The service will be videotaped by Westminster broadcast communications students for broadcast throughout the Advent season on Comcast channel 10 and Armstrong channels 72 and 204.

Westminster's Campus Ministries Staff will provide campus luminaries.

Following the service, the Chapel Staff will host a reception and time of fellowship in Orr Lobby and the Art Gallery.
