Professor to Speak on "Oboe Economics"

Posted on Friday, November 12, 2010

Dr. David Cushman, Westminster College professor of economics, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Cushman's presentation, "Oboe Economics," will cover the economics of oboe production and performance with an interdisciplinary emphasis. Economics, classics, history, biology, environmental issues, film studies, and musical performance will be discussed and demonstrated as they relate to the oboe.

Cushman, who chairs Westminster's Department of Economics and Business, joined the faculty in 2005. He earned an undergraduate degree from Stetson University and master's and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
