Religion Professor Presented at National Conference

Dr. Bryan Rennie, Westminster College Vira I. Heinz professor of religion, presented a paper at the annual conference of the American Academy of Religion Oct. 30 in Atlanta.

Rennie's presentation, "Mircea Eliade and the Cognitive Study of Religion: Consonances between Cognitive Science and Eliadean Concepts (and Possible Applications Concerning Religion and Art)," was made to the "Art(s) of Interpretation" group as part of its Rethinking Eliade session. This and two additional sessions, Reclaiming Eliade and Remembering Eliade, featured some speakers who were colleagues and students of Eliade in Chicago.

Rennie, who chairs Westminster's Department of Religion, History, Philosophy and Classics, has been with Westminster since 1992. He earned an undergraduate degree, master's, and Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He has authored four books and numerous articles on Mircea Eliade.
