Music Education Major to Present Senior Recital

Deanna Owens, a Westminster College music education major, will present her senior recital Sunday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The program is free and open to the public.

Her program includes selections from Vivaldi, Mozart, Wolf, Strauss, Debussy, Quilter, Barber, and Fisher. Tenor James Cochran will join her for Jason Robert Brown's "I'd Give It All for You." Jeffrey Wachter, Westminster adjunct music faculty, will be the accompanist.

Owens is a daughter of Jeffrey and Mary Owens of Waterford and a graduate of Fort LeBoeuf High School.

Cochran, a senior business administration major, is a son of James and Cathy Cochran of Pulaski and a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.

At Westminster, Owens is active in Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Titan Marching Band, Orchestra, Campus Programming Council, Residence Life, Colleges Against Cancer, Student Alumni Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon national music fraternity. She is currently president of Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association and a member of American Choral Directors Association. She has been involved with Opera Westminster, Theatre Westminster, and Westminster Chapel Drama productions. In summer 2009, she studied opera at Opera Viva in Verona, Italy.

Owens, who has a concentration in voice, is from the studio of Dr. Anne Hagan Bentz, Westminster associate professor of music.
