Religion Professor Participated in International Seminar

Posted on Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Dr. Kang-Yup Na, Westminster College associate professor of religion, participated in an international faculty development seminar conducted by the Council on International Educational Exchange in June.

The itinerary for the travel seminar in Israel and Jordan included lectures by and conversations with various representatives and leaders of institutions. Among those were U.S. diplomats in Amman and Jerusalem, former prime ministers of Jordan, and the current Israeli ambassador to Jordan.

"This seminar was one of the most significant professional and personal experiences I have had," Na said. "As both a biblical scholar and a person of faith, I have gained what is certainly impossible to articulate adequately in words; yet the gain has had an irrevocable impact on the way I continue my scholarship of biblical interpretation and the way I think about the continuing problems of Israeli-Palestinian (and Arab) relations."

Na, who has been with Westminster since 1998, earned an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, master's of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from Emory University.
