Celebrity Series to Present Children's Show Oct. 19

Posted on Monday, October 4, 2010

Westminster College's Celebrity Series for Kids will present Strega Nona the Musical Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Based on the beloved children's books by Tomie DePaola, the show tells of a friendly, magical witch who strives to cure the everyday ills of the tiny Italian town of Calabria. The town faces real problems when Big Anthony sneaks a peak at Strega Nona's magic book and uses the magical ways for selfish means. When Big Anthony fools with Strega Nona's magic pasta pot and can't figure out how to turn it off, pasta threatens to engulf the whole town unless Strega Nona can save the day.

"Strega Nona the Musical is well-acted and features great music and a compelling storyline," said Connie McGinnis, assistant director of the Celebrity Series. "Kids, parents, and teachers alike will be delighted. There is nothing like live theatre and sharing this experience with children is truly magical."

The touring production, suitable for children over age three, is sponsored by Dr. Richard Ribarevski, orthodontist, and Family Medical Care of Lawrence County's Dr. James L. Gardner III and Dr. Mary C. Tanyel.

Tickets are available at $8 for children and $13 for adults and can be ordered by calling the Celebrity Series Box Office at (724) 946-7354.
