Students Receive Scholarships from The Pittsburgh Foundation

Ten Westminster College students recently received scholarships through The Pittsburgh Foundation. All awards will be applied to the students' tuition for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Kaitlyn Gida, a freshman early childhood education/special education major, received a $1,200 award funded by the Dr. Matthew R. Hadley Scholarship Fund. She is a daughter of Wayne and Amy Gida of North Versailles and a graduate of East Allegheny High School.

Two freshmen from New Castle received awards from the Jack Butz Humanitarian Scholarship Fund:

Whitney Ryhal, a biology major, received a $500 scholarship. She is a daughter of Lori Ryhal and a graduate of Neshannock High School.

Steven Totin, a fine art major, received a $1,000 scholarship. He is a son of Ronald Totin and Lisanna Hancox and a graduate of New Castle High School.

Three students received $4,663 scholarships from the Ann M. Kendlehart Scholarship Fund:

Chelsea Dean, a junior business administration major, is a daughter of Cynthia Dean of Canfield, Ohio, and a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School.

Shawn Lehocky, a junior economics major, is a son of Greg and Lynn Lehocky of Conway and a graduate of Freedom Area High School.

Stephanie Tracey, a junior economics major, is a daughter of Tammy Tracey and James Tracey, both of Dillsburg, and a graduate of Northern High School.

Four students received awards from the William J. Wolf Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Evan Del Bene, a sophomore accounting major, received the second payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship. He is a son of Michael and Rosemary Del Bene of Bethel Park and a graduate of Bethel Park High School.

Alyssa Hanna, a junior broadcast communications major, received the third payment of a $16,000 four-year scholarship. She is a daughter of Susan Hanna of Allison Park and Mark Hanna of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Sarah Mohn, a freshman psychology major, received the first payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship. She is a daughter of Sherri Mohn of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School.

Chloe Stanczak, a sophomore early childhood education/special education major, received the second payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship. She is a daughter of Richard and Nancy Stanczak of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the U.S., awarding more than $57 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2008.
