Regional History Day Winners Announced

More than 100 students from area junior and senior high schools competed in the regional History Day competition at Westminster College March 23.

This year's theme, "Innovation in History: Impact and Change," was portrayed by students in one of nine categories: individual or group exhibits, individual or group performance, individual or group documentary, group or individual Web site design, or individual paper.

Schools from Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, and Venango counties were invited to the regional competition. Students represented Butler School District, Greenville School District, Grove City School District, Holy Sepulcher (Butler), homeschool students from Greenville and Clarion areas, Mercer School District, and Seneca Valley School District.

Those placing first or second in any category advance to the state contest, May 12-13, at Millersville University. State winners advance to the national contest at the University of Maryland, College Park June 13-17.

Senior history major Kevin Kapraly served as student coordinator for the second year. Kapraly is a son of Stephen and Janet Kapraly of Edinburg and a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.
