Language Professor to Share International Seminar Experience at Faculty Forum

Posted on Monday, March 22, 2010

Dr. Ann Murphy, Westminster College associate professor of French and Spanish, will share information about the Center for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) faculty development seminar at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, March 31, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Murphy was one of 15 participants representing a variety of disciplines from colleges and universities in the United States at CIEE's "Religious Diversity and Conflict in France" seminar last summer.

"I will be discussing the place and practice of religion in France, the most secular country in Europe," Murphy said. "My presentation will also cover the role of the chaplain in guaranteeing religious practice in state institutions such as the French army, hospitals, and prisons."

Murphy, who joined the Westminster faculty in 1995, earned an undergraduate degree from Clark University and master's and Ph.D. from Brown University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
