English Professor to Speak at Bleasby Colloquium

Posted on Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Dr. Suzanne Prestien, Westminster College associate professor of English and public relations, will speak at the Bleasby Colloquium Thursday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center. The program is free and open to the public.

Prestien's presentation, "'I Vant to Bite You...in the Pocketbook': Marketing Vampires and Sexuality in the Twilight Series," will focus on Stephanie Meyer's vampire saga, "not as great literature-which it's not-but as great marketing and public relations," Prestien said.

"I will also discuss the writing process in general, explaining how I came to this topic, and where I will go with it from here," Prestien added.

Prestien, who has been with Westminster since 1997, earned an undergraduate degree from the Kent State University, master's from the University of Toledo, and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

This colloquium is part of the George Bleasby Colloquia, a series of literary events in honor of the late Dr. Bleasby, who chaired the Department of English at Westminster from 1954-75. These programs are public presentations by the faculty of the department, featured speakers, and majors on individual scholarship, interests, and creative projects.
