Peace Studies Coffeehouse to Host Speaker from Western Galilee College

Posted on Monday, March 1, 2010

Westminster College's Peace Studies Coffeehouse will host Jewish history scholar Dr. Ronit Fisher for "The Artistic Fight against Holocaust Denial" Wednesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center. The presentation and dessert reception are free and open to the public.

Her presentation includes a poster exhibit created with designer Rachel Avidor and Israeli students. The posters were produced with assistance from Partnership 2000, Central Area Partnership Consortium/Western Galilee.

"The purpose of this project is not just fulfilling the Jewish 'Zchor' ('remember') directive regarding the catastrophe that led to the destruction of a third of the Jewish people in the mid-20th century, but mainly a commitment that the Holocaust horror shall not be forgotten, not be repeated, and not be denied," Fisher said.

Fisher, who teaches in the Holocaust Studies Program at Western Galilee College in Israel, is the daughter of Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe. She is an independent lecturer on the Holocaust and genocide, gender, and social activism, and the group adviser for second-generation Holocaust survivors in Israel.
