Westminster College will host a Hunger Banquet Thursday, March 4, at 5 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center. The event is open to the public by advance ticket purchase.

Sponsored by Westminster's Circle K International, Newman Club, Chapel Staff, and Sodexo Dining Services, the event is part of Westminster's "Hands for Haiti" relief initiative. All proceeds from the $5 ticket will support OxFam America's efforts to solve hunger and help the people of Haiti.

Purchase of the ticket will grant the participant access to the banquet. Upon arrival, each person will draw an "identity" at random that determines what type of meal that person will receive: 50% will receive the meal of a low-income family; 35% will receive a "middle-class" meal; and 15% will receive a "high-class" meal, to reflect the overall population that goes hungry.

The 90-minute meal and presentation will not only provide insight into OxFam and what the organization does, but will also provide a greater understanding of others in the world.

OxFam is an international relief and development organization committed to issues that include world hunger and poverty. Through its programs, OxFam America seeks to finance small communities, reform foreign aid, supply affordable housing, and provide relief in times of natural disaster. Through internships, hunger banquets, skip-a-meal programs, and collecting recyclables, OxFam not only educates about these world events, but also shows how communities can become part of the solution.

Advance ticket purchase is required by Friday, Feb. 26, to participate.
