History Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Friday, February 12, 2010

Dr. Angela Lahr, Westminster College visiting professor of history, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Lahr's presentation, "Sunday School Politicking: American Protestantism and the Nation, 1964-1973," explores how the relationship between church and state impacted American Protestants from 1964-1973.

Although many scholars have studied the role religious groups play in politics, Lahr's interest is in the ways churchgoers thought about and discussed politics within their religious communities.

Lahr, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2006, earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville and master's and Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
