Faculty Presented at National Math Meetings

Four Westminster College mathematics faculty attended the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Jan. 13-16 in San Francisco.

Dr. Carolyn Cuff, professor and chair of Westminster's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and 1978 Westminster graduate, led "Teaching Introductory Statistics," a pre-meeting workshop sponsored by the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education.

Cuff, who joined the Westminster faculty in 1989, earned a master's and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz and Dr. Pamela Richardson, Westminster assistant professors, presented "A Revamped Problem-Solving Competition" in an MAA special session on math club activities. Richardson also served on an AMS focus group on conferences.

Fontes-Merz, who has been with Westminster since 2004, earned an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and a master's and Ph.D. from Kent State University.

Richardson, who has been with Westminster since 2006, earned an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

Dr. David Offner, Westminster assistant professor, organized a panel discussion on undergraduate research and participated in other activities for new faculty as a 2009-2010 Project NeXT Fellow. He also served as a judge for the Undergraduate Research Poster Session.

Offner, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2009, earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
