Westminster Cable Network Programming Expanding

Posted on Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Westminster College's Westminster Cable Network (WCN) local shows will return to Lawrence County Comcast and will expand into Mercer County via Armstrong Cable this fall.

Dr. David L. Barner, Westminster professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, and Art, said, "The lineup will include a local news program, a show featuring Westminster coaches, live high school sports and Westminster Titan football, the League of Women Voters Candidates Night, Lawrence County Band Festival, and New Castle's Light Up Night."

According to Barner, the programming on Comcast will only be available to subscribers with digital service: "Comcast said channel 10 is not an option for leased access and indicated 70% of Comcast homes have digital service."

Initially, programming will be on Comcast's channel 805 but will move to channel 182 Oct. 1.

Armstrong customers in the Grove City hub can access WCN programming on digital channel 204. New Wilmington borough subscribers will receive broadcasts on basic cable channel 72.

Saturday's Westminster football game against Heidelberg University will air at 1 p.m. on both cable systems.
