Students Presented Capstone Projects at Research Conference

Westminster College students Peter Lukich and Andrew Slane presented the results of their capstone projects at the 2009 Penn State-Behrend Sigma Xi Undergraduate Research and Creative Accomplishment Conference April 18.

Lukich, a senior computer information systems major, is a son of Donna Lukich of Washington and Harry Lukich of Meadowlands. He is a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School. His project, "TD Sorry! A Look at Temporal Difference Learning Applied to a Popular Board Game," was designated "Best Presentation in the Computer Information Systems/Computer Science Section," earning Lukich a $100 cash prize.

Slane, a senior computer science major, is a son of Michael Slane of New Wilmington and a graduate of Logan High School. His project was "The Development of a Maze Evaluation Metric."

The conference included participants from a dozen area colleges and universities presenting research from a wide range of disciplines. 

Dr. John Bonomo, Westminster associate professor of computer science, served as faculty adviser to Lukich and Slane for their research projects.

Dr. David Shaffer, Westminster associate professor of computer science, accompanied the students to the conference.
