Religion Professor's Review Published

Posted on Thursday, April 16, 2009

A review written by Dr. Bryan Rennie, Westminster College Vira I. Heinz professor of religion, will be published in the May issue of The Heythrop Journal.

Rennie's comparative review is of The Blackwell Companion to the Study of Religion edited by Robert A. Segal and The Routledge Companion to the Study of Religion edited by John R. Hinnells, two of the major companions to the study of religion published in recent years.

"The Heythrop Journal, published by Heythrop College of the University of London, is one of the most respected journals on religion in the U.K.," Rennie said. "As such, it is a particularly significant publication in which to appear. For me, the most important aspect of writing the review was that it ensured that I read both Companions (400-500 pages each) very closely and considered them very carefully, which has been of great assistance to my teaching and my familiarity with contemporary issues in the academic study of religion."

Rennie, who chairs Westminster's Department of Religion, History, Philosophy and Classics, has been with Westminster since 1992. He earned an undergraduate degree, master's and Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He has authored four books and numerous articles on Mircea Eliade.
