More than 100 students from area junior and senior high schools competed in the regional History Day competition at Westminster College March 31.

This year's theme, "The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies," was portrayed by students in one of nine categories: individual or group exhibits, individual or group performance, individual or group documentary, group or individual Web site, or individual paper.

Those placing first or second in any category advance to the state contest, May 6-7, at Millersville University. State winners advance to the national contest at the University of Maryland June 14-18.

Contact Dr. David Twining, Westminster College associate professor of history and regional coordinator of the event, at (724) 946-6246 or e-mail twinindc@westminster.edu for more information.
