Mathematics and Computer Science Department Holds Awards Dinner and Induction Ceremony

Westminster College's Mathematics and Computer Science Department held its annual awards banquet and Kappa Mu Epsilon induction March 26 in the Witherspoon Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

The induction ceremony for Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, was led by the organization's officers and Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, Westminster College assistant professor of mathematics and the group's adviser. The eight inductees are: Mikayla Barcus, Jonathan Bodle, Stephen Donnel, Kurtis Gills, Courtney Herdt, Heather McQuiston, Megan Sherry, and Aaron Zavora.

Kappa Mu Epsilon officers are: Larissa Fortna, president; April Scudere, vice president; Lauren Graeser, secretary; Stephen Rossi, treasurer; and Brandon Phillian, publicity chair.

Opening comments were given by Dr. Carolyn Cuff, Westminster professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and a 1978 Westminster graduate. Dr. Warren Hickman, Westminster professor of mathematics emeritus, was an honored guest.

Graduating seniors were recognized by Dr. Barbara Faires, professor of mathematics; Dr. Terri Lenox, associate professor of computer science; and Dr. David Shaffer, associate professor of computer science. Departmental scholarships and awards were presented by Cuff, Faires, Fontes-Merz, Shaffer, and Dr. Pamela Richardson, assistant professor of mathematics.
