Senior Music Education Major to Perform Flute Recital

Nicole Abel, a Westminster College senior music education major, will perform a flute recital Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Her program includes: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Concerto No. 1 in G Major; Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonata in E minor; Gabriel Fauré's Fantasie; and chamber works. Abel will be assisted by: Stephen Wheeler, a bassoonist and sophomore mathematics and music major from Crescent; Rachel DeVuyst, a flutist and senior elementary education major from Webster, N.Y., and David Tessmer, her Westminster College flute teacher. She will be accompanied on the piano by Kathryn Miller, a Westminster College adjunct professor.

Abel is a daughter of Robert and Lisa Lane from Cannonsburg and a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School. While at Westminster, she has participated in the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Flute Choir, and Woodwind Quintet. She has performed with the pit orchestra for the operas Die Fledermaus and Magically Mozart. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association and the national music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon. She is also a member of the national education fraternity Kappa Delta Pi, as well as Pi Sigma Pi, an academic honor society.
