Westminster College celebrates the start of its 150th academic year Friday, Aug. 23 at 8 a.m.

The class of 2006 will be greeted by 88 tie-dye clad upper class volunteers who help them unload their car, truck or vanloads of personal items into the residence halls where they will spend the next four years.

After unpacking is completed and lunch is served, the class of 2006 and their parents will attend Opening Convocation to hear greetings from President R. Thomas Williamson, Dr. Jesse T. Mann, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, and Christopher W. Nave, student government president. Dr. Darwin W. Huey, associate professor of education, will give a special address, "Fires and Wells."

After a special president's reception, the parents and first-year students will say their goodbyes, and continue special events planned just for them. When parents depart, the new students will be divided among the volunteers, who will serve as group leaders for the next week.
