Three Westminster College Students Receive Sharonsteel Foundation Scholarships

Three Westminster College Students have received the Sharonsteel Foundation Scholar Awards.

Sophomore Casey Gadsby, junior Beau Hollowell, and first-year student Melanie Piddington will receive a $5,000 grant to apply toward tuition at Westminster College, and will receive an additional $5,000 each year until graduation provided they continue to meet the criteria established by the Sharonsteel Foundation Trustees.

The scholarship, established in 1997-98, requires the student to be a Mercer County resident, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 and demonstrated leadership potential as well as extra curricular initiative.

Gadsby, a biology major, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Spence, 486, N. Cottage Rd., Mercer, and a graduate of Lakeview High School.

Hollowell, an English major, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hollowell, 45 Mabel Dr., West Middlesex, and a graduate of West Middlesex High School

Piddington, a sociology/criminal justice major, is a daughter of Linda Piddington, 324 Independence Court, and George Piddington, Sharon, and a graduate of Sharon High School.

The Foundation established in 1953 with funds from the Sharon Steel Corporation, Farrell, Pa., for the purpose of benefiting local charitable, religious, scientific and educational purposes. In recent years, the focus of the Foundation's awards has been on charitable and educational projects within our local community.
