David Malis, an international opera star, will perform at Westminster College, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Malis, a baritone, made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Marcello in La Boheme, and has been heard on that stage as Papageno in Die Zauberflote, Belcore in L'elisir d/amore, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Ned Keene in Peter Grimes. Most recently he sang the role of Dancaire in Carmen.

His powerful interpretation of Ford in Verdi's Falstaff has taken him to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in Buenos Aires, The San Francisco Opera, and Theatre des Champs-Elysees.

Malis will give his recital with the accompaniment of Dr. Nancy Zipay DeSalvo, assistant professor of music at Westminster College. His selections include art songs by Hugo Wolfe, Henri Duparc, and early Italian composers. He will also sing arias by Britten, Giordano, and Puccini, as well as songs from West Side Story and Man of La Mancha.

While at Westminster, Malis will speak about making a living as a performer Feb. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium, and will address the Concert Choir during rehearsal on Feb. 7 at 3:45 p.m. in the Chapel. He will also conduct a voice master class with students in the Chapel on Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m.

All sessions are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Robin Lind, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Westminster College, at (724) 946-7278.
