Westminster College Hosts Third Annual High School One-Act Festival

Theatre Westminster hosted the third annual high school One-Act Festival Monday, Jan. 29, at Beeghly Theater.

Five area schools, Freedom Area High School, Sharpsville Area High School, Greenville High School, Commodore Perry High School and Sharon High School, competed for five awards, including best show, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, and best supporting actress.

The festival was judged by Father Robert Miller, priest at St. Camilla's Church in New Castle and former guest director at Theatre Westminster; Paul Kimpel, designer, director, playwright at Youngstown Playhouse, and 2001 guest director of Theatre Westminster; and Jam Imbornone, 12th grade advance placement English teacher at Wilmington High School.

Brad Dell, junior theatre major from Greensburg, coordinated and emceed the event. Workshops were conducted for the high school students by Greg Gottschalk, a junior chemistry major from Pittsburgh, Bill Weniger, a junior theatre major from Conneaut Lake, and Melissa Cooper, a junior sociology/criminal justice major from Findleyville.

The winners and runners-up in each category is listed below:

Best Show Winner: The Brick and the Rose - Freedom Area High School
Runner-up, 110th St. Station - Commodore Perry High School

Best Actor Winner: John Harvey - Freedom Area High school
Runner-up, Jared Reichard - Commodore Perry High School

Best Actress Winner: Jamie Mohrboeker - Freedom Area High School
Runner-up, Cassee Campbell - Commodore Perry High School

Best Supporting Actor Winner: Jessie Bender - Freedom Area High School
Runner-up, Kevin Arbuekle - Commodore Perry High School

Best Supporting Actress Winner: Brittany Rexroad - Freedom Area High School
Runner-up, Noel Stanger - Greenville High School
