Notes from the Field Station: North Country Trail Association Visits the Field Station

Representatives from NCTA visit the Westminster College Field Station

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -Trails are made for walking.  A dozen representatives of the North Country Trail Association (NCTA) proved this on Wednesday, August 14.  Their trek at the Field Station was just one of the field excursions linked with the annual meetings held this year at Slippery Rock University.  Hikers hailed from Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania.  They came, they saw, they hiked!

International Speaker to Discuss "Multiculturalism and Immigration" at Westminster College

Dr. Ariane Chebel d'Appollonia, a professor from Sciences Po, an internationally-known French university, will speak at Westminster College Thursday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. in the Berlin Student Lounge located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

 d'Appollonia, who has also taught classes at Stanford University, Columbia University, New York University, University of Southern California, Delaware University, Middlebury College, Smith College, and Hamilton College, will discuss her area of expertise, "Multiculturalism and Immigration."

Westminster College Employees Recognized for 783 Years of Service

Westminster College honored 38 employees with a combined 783 years of service during the annual employee recognition luncheon attended by more than 250 current and retired employees May 4 in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Retiring from Westminster College are: Dr. Paul R. Chenevey, associate professor of music;  Dr. J. Philip Fawley, professor of biology; Dr. Elizabeth A. Ford, professor of English; S. Kipley Haas, professor of physical education; and Carroll J. Shaw, purchasing, training, and office manager for Information Systems.

Other honorees were:

40 years of service , Dr. Paul R. Chenevey, associate professor of music

35 years of service , David K. Brautigam, assistant professor and assistant librarian; Donna J. Buchowski, cook, Sodexho Dining Service; Dr. A. Dwight Castro, professor of classics; S. Kipley Haas, professor of physical education; Dr. G. Samuel Lightner, professor of physics; Dr. Patrick C. McCarthy, professor of biology; Richard E. Shaffer, stockroom attendant, Sodexho Dining Service.

30 years of service , Dr. Daniel E. Fischmar, professor of economics, and Molley P. Spinney, head librarian and associate professor.

25 years of service , Bernard F. Bonnie, manager of computer and network operations; Elizabeth E. Hines, director of the Westminster Fund; and Sandra L. Shearer, bookstore manager;

20 years of service -- Peggy L. Cox, professor of art, and Robert G. Klamut, Jr. , associate professor of physical education.

15 years of service , Mary Ann Buckley, secretary for the Department of Physical Education and Athletics; Suzanne Carter Barner, payroll coordinator; Mary Jo Evanoff, student receivables clerk; Elaine M. Gurtner, custodian; Charlene M. Nicholson, snack bar attendant, Sodexho Dining Service; Diana M. Reed, head teacher of the Preschool Lab; Gary L. Swanson, director of Audio Visual Services; Dr. David G. Swerdlow, professor of English; Dr. Ann E. Throckmorton, associate professor of biology; Dr. David C. Twining, associate professor of history; and Dr. Ross A. Wastvedt, associate professor of English.
