On July 3, 2012, the annual Independence Day concert by Lake Brittain on the Westminster campus will return for its 23rd year. This all-family event will feature the nationally famous River City Brass Band, bagpipers, singing by Ali Pabrinkis '12 and Kathy Mansell, and fireworks by Pyrotecnico. The event is recognized as the premier July 4th celebration in this wide-ranging geographical region. The grassy bowl-like hillsides facing the lake have seated as many as 10,000 people on a nice night. Families bring blankets, chairs and pillows to sit on and an array of picnic baskets and refreshments. There will be food vendors on the site.
The band plays music beloved by many Americans that is not heard much on today's radio and TV programs. There are also welcoming comments recognizing the importance of the celebration. The music is basically folk, Broadway, patriotic, religious and semi-classical. It has been called "a slice of Americana," and "A Norman Rockwell Fourth of July Celebration."
The musical program starts at 7:30 PM and is followed by an unobstructed view of the fireworks display at approximately 9:15 PM.
The concert is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be taken.
